What is All the Hype About Reclosable Bags?

These days, more people are using reclosable bags than ever before, specifically reclosable plastic bags with zipper style closures at the top of the bag. They are used in the kitchen for storing food items, around the home for organizational purposes, magazines and equipment manuals are sealed and shipped out in them. They are everywhere, and it seems they are fast becoming that item that people simply cannot do without!

Why have they made such an impact on home owners and people in all professions and from all walks of life? It is because the reclosable bag is so incredibly useful that they are popular. They are also much more environmentally friendly as they are recyclable and can be used over again.

We all know why we use reclosable poly bags.  Their main uses are for food storage, keeping food for days in the refrigerator, they are great for freezing food in and they are also extremely useful for organizing materials and keeping track of smaller objects found around the home.  What more can they be used for?

Keeping Track of Items:  If you have a craft or a hobby, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of everything and how frustrating it can be trying to find that one missing item. One way to avoid losing small items, is to group them together in clear plastic bags. Then, if you store those items together in a drawer, or a small box, you will always know exactly where to find things. The same can be said for small pieces of children’s toy sets as well. It is so much easier to keep all the little Lego pieces for a set together in a small reclosable plastic bag, where they will be instantly available to your  child. It will save hours of frustration, and tears if you organize your child’s toys in this way.

Keeping things in the one place, knowing where they are:  Along the same lines, these bags are very handy when it comes to always knowing exactly where you will find something. We would always lose game markers and dice, until we came up with the brilliant idea of keeping all of the markers and dice from all of our games together in one central location, sorted into a reclosable bag.

Space Saving: If you are hard up for space, you live in a smaller apartment or you do not have a lot of cupboard space, you may find it more space saving to actually store items–including dry food items–in reclosable plastic bags, as opposed to storing them in boxes and containers, especially if you do not have the correct sized containers on hand.  Plastic bags really do take up a lot less space, overall, than boxes or containers.

Saving our Environment: Yes, the more often you recycle that plastic bag, the more good you are doing our environment.  Quite a few countries, including Ireland and Taiwan, have implemented a ‘plastic bag’ tax. In these countries you are no longer automatically supplied with plastic bags–you have to buy them. This has cut back tremendously on plastic bag waste and is encouraging the recycling of plastic bags.

You may find using reclosable bags in your home really is a big help when it comes to taking care of your organization and storage needs.  They are cheap, reusable, reclosable and because they are made from clear plastic it is very easy to see at an instant what is stored in them.
